Bruce Jenner, whose decision to transition into a woman has been heavily discussed these past few months, finally opened up about the entire thing during a tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer.

“For all intents and purposes (sic) I am a woman,” Jenner admitted to Sawyer. “People look at me differently, they see [me] as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything I do in life… that female side is part of me. It’s who I am. I was not genetically born that way, as of now I have all the male parts… but [I] still identify as female.”

“I was always very confused with my gender identity,” adds the former Olympic champion. “My brain is much more female than it is male.”

But despite declaring himself as “female,” Bruce went on to clarify that he is not homosexual. “I am not gay,” he said. “I am, as far as I know, heterosexual. I’ve never been with a guy.”

In the emotional two-hour special, it was also revealed that Bruce began first began transitioning into a woman in the ’80s–taking female hormones, undergoing plastic surgery to change parts of his face, and having electrolysis done to permanently remove his facial and chest hair.

As of now, Jenner is back on hormones and plans to undergo more cosmetic surgery, as well as sexual reassignment surgery sometime in the future.
